The Spinnaker community just held our 6th annual Spinnaker Summit and our first in-person Summit in three years. This was an exciting event co-located with Kubecon in Detroit. While the last couple Spinnaker Summits were all virtual, it was great meeting up again in person!

This year included a full 2 days of content, filled with technical talks, including Spinnaker RBAC, policy as code, and ephemeral environments. There were talks covering interesting use cases such as integrating with CDEvents, driving cloud adoption in healthcare, and developer enablement through gitops-driven infrastructure as code.

For those wanting to gain some experience contributing to Spinnaker, Fernando Freire hosted a first time contributors workshop. The Special Interest Group (SIG) leads hosted hybrid, in-person and virtual, SIG sessions for the Platform, Docs, and Cloud SIGs. If you weren’t able to make it, we’ll have the videos uploaded when the recordings are available.

At Spinnaker Summit, we announced the newly formed Technical Oversight Committee (TOC). With the input and blessing of the previous leadership, the decision was made to combine the previous TOC and the Steering Committee into one group, the TOC. The new TOC includes Spinnaker leaders, contributors, and users from across the community. We’ve heard the community’s desire for increased transparency and have made the TOC Meeting Notes public.

I’m happy to announce the new Technical Oversight Committee members:

  • Amazon, Praseeda Sathaye, App Modernization Specialist SA
  • Apple, Dadisi Sanyika, Engineering Manager
  • Armory, Cameron Motevasselani, Engineering Manager, TOC Chair
  • Autodesk, Cole Duclos, Software Engineer and Cloud Architect
  • JPMorgan Chase, Matt Gogerly, Software Engineer
  • Netflix, Amy Smidutz, Director, Delivery Engineering
  • OpsMX, Gopinath Rebala, CTO
  • Salesforce, David Byron, Principle Upstream Spinnaker Developer
  • The Home Depot, James Guido, IT Architect

Thank you to all who made this event possible, it was awesome to seeing the community in person, energized, and growing closer together. If you haven’t already, please join us on Spinnaker Slack, join a SIG or two (see the SIG Meeting Calendar), and join us for a revival of our community hackathon, Gardening Days, coming in April/May 2023!
